If Ali G sold kitchen worktops…

10th May 2025

We decided to zjhush up our blog posts a bit here at Back to Basics by putting AI to good use. We asked it to rewrite a blog post on choosing the best kitchen worktop in the style of Ali G. Here’s what happened (spoiler alert: it’s hilarious!!)

Kitchen Worktops – Which One Is Da Real Deal?

Aiiight, listen up. If you is redo-ing your kitchen – maybe for yo’ mum, yo’ nan, or just to flex on da neighbours – you need to know about da ting called worktops. Dis is where all da magic happens: chopping, cooking, spillin’ tea, and occasionally cryin’ over raw onions. But not all worktops is created equal, innit. Some is strong like me biceps, some is fragile like me ego when I don’t get no likes on Insta. So here’s da lowdown on da most peng materials for your kitchen surface. Safe.

Quartz – Stronger Than Me Security Guard (£££-££££)
Dis stuff is proper solid, ya get me? It’s made by science – real clever geezers mixin’ rock dust with some other stuff to make it look well sexy. It don’t stain, it don’t scratch, and it comes in all kinds o’ colours – like bling for your kitchen. Best for busy kitchens where yo’ nan be cookin’ up three meals a day, but it’s a bit pricey, but so’s a gold chain, innit.
Price: Mid to high. You might need to sell a couple of NFTs.

Granite – Nature’s Own Hard Man (££££)
Granite is like da Vin Diesel of worktops – hard, reliable, and looks good without trying. It comes from da earth, innit, and each slab is one-of-a-kind – like a snowflake, but proper hench. Dis is best for people who like their kitchens posh and proper and don’t mind doin’ a bit of sealing now and then.
Price: High-end. Like first-class Ryanair.

Marble – Fancy but Fragile (££££)
Dis is da Beyoncé of worktops – classy, stunning, and probably a bit outta your league. Great for baking ‘cos it’s always cool, but it stains easy – like white trainers in a muddy festival. Best for posh bakers and influencers but it needs loads of love!
Price: Big boy money. Get ready to remortgage.

Butcher Block – Wooden Wonder (££)
Dis is wood, innit. Straight-up timber for your kitchen. It’s warm, it’s homely, and it makes your house look like Jamie Oliver lives there. But you gotta oil it like you oil your bike chain. If you want all da rustic vibes and Sunday roasts dis is your jam, but don’t let it get wet or it’ll go soggier than week-old chips.
Price: Decent. Budget-friendly for da people.

Laminate – Cheap and Cheerful (£)
Laminate is da Primark of worktops – affordable, looks good from a distance, but don’t look too close or lean on it with a hot pan, yeah? It comes in all sorts of styles, even fakes lookin’ like marble. Best for: First homes, rentals, or broke legends. Downsides: One scratch and it’s game over.
Price: Bargain central. Poundland-level prices.

Concrete – Street Style Vibes (£££)
Concrete is like council estate chic – raw, urban, well edgy. You can make it any colour, any shape – fully custom. But don’t be surprised if it gets cracks – just like me when I try to squat. If you is a trendsetter and say “industrial” a lot you will love it. Expect high maintenance tho – like your ex.
Price: Mid to high, depends how fancy you go.

Ceramic surface – Smooth Operator (£££)
This one’s like da James Bond of worktops. Slick, seamless, smooth like me chat-up lines. Scratches? No problem – sand ’em out. Heat? Just don’t go puttin’ kettles straight on it, bruv. Best for: Minimalists who watch Grand Designs, but keep it cool – it don’t like fire.
Price: Mid to high, like a Toyota Corolla.

Final Thoughts from Da Worktop Warlord
